Training 1: Radio Scripting & Delivery
Even with technological changes, radio is still a single-sensory medium. This means that we have to connect with listeners solely through sound. Having a well-written script is an essential part of conveying your story in a way that engages your audience. The way you use your voice and studio equipment to express your script is a second essential component. In this training you’ll learn tips and best practices to do both like a pro! After completing this training, you’ll be able to write scripts and event listings, and host shows!
Training 2: Audio Editing with Audacity
Audacity is a free, open-source audio editing program that CHRY contributors can use to edit pre-recorded content (improve interview quality, add and edit music beds, etc.) so that all your radio content is polished to the highest standards of sound quality! In this training, you’ll be given an introduction to this program and resources that you can use when you’re editing on your own. After completing this training, you’ll be able to archive and edit audio content for a number of programs.
Training 3: Anti-Oppression Language and Interviewing
What makes CHRY 105.5FM an “alternative” radio station? In part, it’s our commitment to using language and interview skills that demonstrate respect and sensitivity to people of diverse backgrounds. In this training you’ll get an Anti-Oppression primer: you’ll learn about how your own experiences may influence the way you approach stories and how to avoid making assumptions when interviewing others. You’ll gain insight as to how these skills translate to the “collective” environment of behind-the-scenes content creation. And finally, you’ll learn how to create radio content that “digs deep” to the roots of social problems and identifies potential solutions. After completing this training, you’ll be able to conduct interviews for a number of programs!
