Excalibur Trans* Supplement, Cultural Appropriation & Sex-Ed Comics

Monday, October 28th:

York Community Report: Joanna Beaton and Meghan MacRae sit down with Brigette Liang the new Coordinator for the Queer and Trans Supplement.  Brigette explains the importance of the supplement along with the issues that will be discussed ranging from Transmisogyny, to representations in the media.  We discuss why the supplement will interest the York community, and Brigette’s personal experiences within the trans community.

Feature Interview: Joanna Beaton and Meghan MacRae discuss cultural appropriation in an interview with Aruna Boodram, post-Miley Cyrus’ performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. They talk about appropriation in music, culture and fashion, as well as Halloween costuming — and how to be respectful of other cultures.

Independent Arts Report: Joanna Beaton and Meghan MacRae speak to co-authors Saiya Miller & Liza Bley of the Sex Ed comic book “Not Your Mother’s Meatloaf”. The comic brings together a selection of personal accounts via comic art by various artists addressing sex and sexuality as well as introductory writing and drawings by the co-authors.
