York Connection – “Democratizing the Constitution”
“Democratizing the Constitution: Reforming Responsible Government” written by Peter Aucoin, Mark Jarvis and Lori Turbull, and published by Osgoode Hall Proffessor Paul Emond’s publishing company, Emond Montgomery Publications, recently won the $50,000 Donner Prize for the best public policy written by a Canadian in 2012.
News Now Reporter, Shanice Grocia, speaks with Mike Thompson, a publisher working for Emond Montgomery Publications, about this timely and critical exploration of some of the systematic issues within Canada’s parliamentary system. Amongst other contentions, the authors of this book argue that the Canadian Prime Minister holds level of power over the Canadian constitution that is incompatible with genuine democracy.
